  2. Evitate invece i tessuti a righe, orizzontali o verticali, che in video creano effetti sgradevoli.
  3. Evitate abiti dello stesso colore dello sfondo.

Il suono

  2. Create un profilo nell’applicazione inserendo i vostri dati.
  3. Attendete l’invito di chi organizza l’evento digitale e scegliete sempre «applicazione desktop».

Guidelines for remote guests on digital broadcasts

Tips on getting your picture and your internet connection right before and during the event.

Italiano ↑English

A Zoom call or a work meeting on Microsoft Teams is very different from a remote broadcast, where a director and a team of professionals put together a real digital event of considerable technical complexity, with many people at work in the days before it goes live.

Remote guests are therefore expected to match that standard: picture quality, a stable connection, clothing, framing and sound all need some care. Here are a few guidelines to help you get every aspect of your appearance in a digital broadcast right.

How to get ready

The space

  1. Everyone will notice your background: choose carefully what can be seen behind you.
  2. Sit where you will not be in the way of anyone else in the room. A quiet, separate room is best.
  3. If there is a door behind you, close it: better not to show what should not be seen.

Framing

  1. Make sure your laptop screen is at a 90° angle to the surface it rests on.
  2. To raise the camera, put a few books or magazines under the computer rather than tilting the screen, which distorts the picture.
  3. Moving closer to or further from the table helps you adjust the framing.
  4. Your position in the centre and the proportions of the frame should match the picture below.

Lighting

  1. Your face and body should be lit from the front, at an angle of 45°.
  2. A desk lamp or a table lamp placed in front of you at 45° works well.
  3. If there is a strong light behind you, switch it off. If it is a window, draw the curtains.
  4. A window in front of you or at 45° can be an excellent alternative to artificial light.
If you cannot follow points 1 and 2 where you are, find a better spot.

What to wear

  1. Wear plain, solid colours, in whatever colours and combinations you like.
  2. Avoid stripes, horizontal or vertical: they create distracting effects on camera.

Sound

  1. Always use earphones to listen to the audio during the call, otherwise the sound will feed back.
  2. If you have no headphones or earphones, keep your computer volume at 30% to avoid an annoying echo.
  3. Find a quiet room and do what you can to keep it quiet.

Internet connection

  1. Use your laptop or desktop computer and make sure it is plugged in rather than running on battery.
  2. Ideally, connect your computer to your home or office router with a LAN cable.
  3. If you are on wi-fi, follow the points below to get the best from your connection.
  4. Disconnect any other devices from the network and ask the people with you to do the same.
  5. Is someone watching a film on Netflix? Ask them to wait until the broadcast is over.
  6. If you want to watch the live broadcast, use your phone or tablet on mobile data, not the computer you are using for the call.

Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams
  1. Download the Microsoft Teams desktop app for your operating system.
  2. Create a profile in the app with your details.
  3. Wait for the invitation from the event organiser and always choose “desktop app”.
